Company developed forensic software known as iVe that acquires data from the infotainment center of vehicles. 

• The iVe Ecosystem is a collection of tools that supports investigators throughout the entire vehicle forensics process with a mobile application for identifying vehicles, a hardware kit for acquiring systems, and forensic software for analyzing data.Berla updates iVE on a quarterly basis that includes newly supported vehicles as well as any software and tools needed to download the data.

3 Steps of Vehicle Forensic Process

• Identify – Includes identifying the vehicle, system installed in the vehicle, & what data could be obtained.
• Acquire – Includes removing the computer module, attaching the hardware, and running the iVe software to download the data.
• Analyze – Includes reviewing the data to determine if the information present relates to an investigation and to prepare a report for the investigator.

What Can You Receive from iVe download.

Devices – Typically include Cellular Phones

• Cellular Phones can be connected to a vehicle by Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, or USB Port
• Information that can be obtained include: contact information, calls incoming/outgoing, text messages incoming/outgoing, web search history.
• The information obtained from the cellular phone can also include a time stamp.

Locations – GPS that is linked to Infotainment Center

• Tracklogs – GPS Coordinates where vehicle traveled
• Locations – Address or GPS Coordinates
• Routes – Waypoints establishing the users point of travel
• Velocity Logs – GPS data that shows speed over a period of time on a graph

Events – Occurrences that the system has been programmed to capture

• Examples include: doors opening/closing, odometer, lights, gear shafts, seatbelt, traction events
